Sunday, February 24th, 2008Yeah yeah yeah, do my own homework, but I’ve looked and looked and I cannot find the answers to these last questions! So, all of you political scientists, please help!
1. In a system of separation of powers such as that in the United States, parties serve to:
A) bring about some coordination among the separate branches of government.
B) further disperse power.

D) hinder communication between Congress and the executive branch.
2. Reformers have proposed that the federal government should fund all congressional races in order to:

C) eliminate the last vestige of the party system.
D) increase candidates’ ability to buy advertising.
3. When Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) approved student visas for two of the September 11 hijackers six months after they died in the attack, it illustrated:
A) that federal bureaucracies can be overworked and underfunded.
B) that INS lacked legal authority to investigate suspected terrorists.
C) that the Department of Homeland Security was working ineffectively prior to September 11.
D) that the CIA had failed to share the hijackers names with the INS promptly after Sept. 11
4. The Department of Homeland Security:
A) was formed primarily from offices and agencies that already existed in other departments.
B) was established during the Vietnam War in 1971.
C) is the largest department in the executive branch.
D) was created from a merger of the FBI, the CIA, and the NSA.
