Aren’t you kind of flattered by political advertising?

Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

Everyone usually just sighs and says, "oh no, not another one…"

But truthfully, isn’t that proving that our vote counts? Isn’t that the politicians trying to tell us that we matter, trying to get us on their side?

im jus sort of suspicious, but im suspicious of paper towel commercials!! ever since i studdied false advertisment in highschool, i dont trust ads. plas how much can they value our votes if their already takign them for granted by saying "im the future president" they thenk were stupid is what i cen see by their ads ♥

Could a person sue political organizations for false advertising?

Thursday, February 17th, 2011

Currently in Ohio we have a vote coming up to allow or disallow casinos in state. Both sides are advertising completely different things about the prop. and stating exact opposites. It has gotten so bad that each side is saying the other is lying.
What I want to know is: Can I as an individual sue whatever side is lying about the issue under false advertising? (Or for any other reason like intentional distribution of misinformation).
Does anyone else think this would help in making decisions when it comes time to vote?

Yes you may sue either company that is giving out false advertisements. It is in the law that false advertisements are not allowed. If it is intentional distribution of misinformation, it is still false advertisement because they ""purposely"" gave out false advertisement to everyone in which you can sue the company.

I hope I have helped you =)

How did people in the 1790’s advertise their political campaign?

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

How did they get the message out to vote for them?

They traveled and spoke to people. They wrote pamphlets that were widely distributed and read.

They also used the newspapers. They did have printing presses back then you know…

Basically, they did everything we do today… just not with TV and the internet…

political science or advertising as a major?

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Hey, I’m interested in getting a bachelors in political science and advertising. I love them both but I feel like I have to choose one because they’re not really related and it might be hard to double major. A major factor that will affect my decision will be the job opportunities.

I feel like I can land a job more easily with a bachelors in advertising rather than polisci. am i wrong?

also do you think it would make sense to minor in one and major in the other?

I’m confused…any answers appreciated!

I agree with your thoughts. There’s DEFINITELY more job opportunities in advertising over Pol. Sci. I really don’t think Pol. Sci. is all that relevant, to be honest. I mean, take classes in it if you are interested in it and enjoy it, by all means. Go ahead and minor in it. I think you have the right plan.

are there any good sites or articles that talk about how political campaigning has changed since early America?

Monday, December 27th, 2010

i’m doing a paper and can find plenty of information on TV advertising starting around the 60’s, but any type of information on campaigning and advertising that is non-TV related from earlier than that is hard to find. any help would be great. thanks.

I can tell you one great book. "What Happened" by Scott McClellan talks about how the office of the presidency turned into a constant campaign.

Is it appropriate to allow government to regulate commercial speech such as advertising than political speech?

Thursday, December 23rd, 2010

Tell why or why not.

It is appropriate for government to regulate fraud. To the extent speech constitutes fraud, or an implied contract, it is the place of government to regulate or enforce it.

How much of the so called negative advertising of political opponents actually help the opposition?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

For instance, currently there is negative adds going out on Palin and Obama. Do these adds backfire and actually help the target rather than hurt? A week ago no one knew who Palin was. Does all this stuff help her name ID?

Negatives ads aimed ONLY at very narrow (sorry 43% of voters) category of people who can not think independently. It has no affect on people with strong mind and will.

Is there an independent body to police the veracity of information presented in political advertising.?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) does not regulate political advertising regardless of how inaccurate or misleading it may be.

From a recent response to a complaint:

"We are unable to investigate complaints about advertising which aims to influence voters in elections or referendums. To do so would be to interfere with the democratic process."

Basically, that means that political advertising is allowed to lie and deliberately mislead without challenge.

Your "Basically" is the answer !
