Thursday, September 29th, 2011

These days there is increasing scrutiny when it comes to one’s campaign financing. There have been an increasing number of special interest groups that are taking a bigger and bigger role in American politics. There have been instances where a political campaign suffered a backlash from the media and even the public, because they had received money from large special interests groups with unknown political goals.

There is a real ethical dilemma when comes to taking larger amounts from a few bigger donors as opposed to taking many smaller donations from individuals. If a politician is running for public office, for instance, the fewer large donors may very well think that he or she owes them something. They may end up calling in a marker at some point. Should the politician refuse to cooperate, he or she may find that the donor has not only withdrawn their support, but is also siding with a rival candidate now. It is really hard to serve all your constituents when you owe big favors to a few.

The solution is quite simple: grassroots fundraising. Putting emphasis on the Internet with your political campaign advertising can help you create a solid base of individual supporters. The amount a single individual can donate may not be huge (they are typically less than 0). However, the goal here is to get enough of them.

With grassroots fundraising, you are also killing two birds with one stone. This is because your donors are also potential voters. In addition, if you manage to get someone’s support in this manner, they are also an asset to you when it comes to spreading the word. There is no better political campaign advertising than word of mouth.

We can help you put together an effective political campaign advertising effort using cutting edge Internet marketing techniques such as social media marketing, viral marketing, search engine optimization and search engine marketing.

Political Campaign Advertising Ideas for the Digital Age

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

Political campaign advertising in its traditional form has been around for a long time. In the early days of American politics it was primarily hand bills, news paper ads and posters around town. During the twentieth century, radio and television were added to the mix. These forms of political campaign advertising still play a big role, but thanks to the dawn of the digital age, we now have a new tool we can add to our arsenal: the World Wide Web.

The Internet is not just another means to an end however. It is making advertising professionals think outside of the box. While traditional adverting requires the audience to stop what they are doing in order to be exposed to your political message, Online they often find you as a result of the activity they turned on their computer or mobile device on for in the first place. In addition, you can also get your prospects perform a desired action, let it be signing up for a newsletter, giving a donation, etc. This, of course, is not available to you when you run ads with your local television station. Hence, adverting Online tends to be more effective and provides you with a bigger bang for your buck.

Here Are Some Online political campaign advertising Ideas:

These are the areas we specialize in.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO): This is the art and science of getting a page ranked in Google and other search engines for a certain search tem.

Search Engine Marketing (SEM): This includes all forms of advertising with the search engines that are paid for. For instance, if you have ever been to Google, you have seen the ads on the right-hand side (and sometimes at the very top). These ads also appear on the domains of Google search partners as wells as some blogs.

Social Media/Viral Marketing: This is essentially electronic word of mouth. This includes utilizing sites such as Facebook and Twitter and sometimes video sharing sites like YouTube.

Political Email Marketing: Reach individuals through targeted email lists.

Political advertising efforts differ greatly from products and services one may see advertised on television, on radio, in the print media and Online. Here, you don’t really have a product or service in traditional sense of the word. You are in, fact, trying to sell a person on something intangible: an idea. It is important then to hire a political advertising agency that is prepared to deal with the intricacies and nuances of such efforts.

Another way to look at the job of a political advertising agency is that they are helping you with a very public interview process. No matter if you are running for office as a public servant or if you have some other kind of goal, you are trying to sell the public on you (or your cause). This is another way that political advertising is different.

We specialize in the online segment of your advertising efforts. This can be considered a niche within a niche. Online advertising has changed the way professionals look at the task at hand. This is because an online audience tends to be savvier and better educated than the messes at large. We also have a unique opportunity take your efforts to the next level due to our ability to measure and track the effectiveness of every action we take on your behalf.

The forms of political advertising we can engage in include pay-per-click, banner advertising, email marketing and more.

why do political ads not have to abide by truth in advertising laws?

Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

So many of the ads for one candidate or the other that I am seeing , simply are not truthful. When I research their claims, I find the ad is knowingly lying. Why are they not prosecuted under truth in advertising? Freedom of speech doesn’t mean you can lie.

You are correct. Political ads do not need to be truthful. They are exempt from truth-in-advertising laws. The reason is simple: political speech, unlike commerce, is protected by the First Amendment.

Here’s just one of many articles on the subject: http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1843796,00.html

Should news networks have to disclose how much advertising revenue they bring in from each political candidate?

Thursday, August 18th, 2011

It would seem there is definitely an incentive for many major news networks to play soft ball with the president because he will have a billion dollars in the bank to advertise with next year.

Media outlets make money selling advertisements.

What do you think?
@fush ya……."Shouldn’t people be smart enough to see it themselves?"

I don’t know about "should", I just know what people currently are. Uninformed and getting manipulated on a daily basis is the tip of the iceberg. The news media is only perpetuating the problem.

The more transparency the better. The system is getting more opaque by the minute…especially since that supreme court ruling about campaign finance and the removal of McCain-Feingold.

On which side of the Political Spectrum does banning tobacco advertising fall and why?

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

I’m doing a REALLY important project for civics and I don’t really know which side this would fall on and why. Please help!!

Banning the advertising itself would be classified as liberal. Conservatives generally believe in a hands off approach to the economy and a caveat emptor approach to product safety. Liberals believe pretty much the opposite. Banning advertising is direct market manipulation, and hence would be liberal.

If political campaigns & fundraising were outlawed, would we have better representation?

Monday, July 11th, 2011

1. Politicians would not be in the pockets of rich individuals or corporations when deciding what’s best for the people
2. Voters would have to watch debates, read up on the candidates and otherwise become more infomed to make their voting decisions. Less informed voters would either have to get informed, or pass & not vote, which would be one less un-informed vote
3. Less chances of voters deciding based on slick advertising campaigns, which are notoriously deceptive anyway. People shouldn’t be picking their candidate the same way the pick their laundry detergent, should they?
4. We would do away with an insane waste of money which could be better used just about anywhere else
5. We wouldn’t have to listen to campaign ads 24/7 or deal with road sign pollution.

Just a little theory of mine. What are your thoughts?

That’s my theory, but I’ll let you share it:

One of the greatest atrocities in the U.S. is that our "elected" officials can be swayed by campaign financing from lobbyists of large companies with a vested interest (cigarette, automakers, banks, pharmaceutical, defense contractors, you name it). If they give a large enough amount of money to a senator’s campaign, you KNOW that senator will be "inclined" to vote in favor of any bill that will favor that company or industry.

If you agree that "pay-to-play" is not fair, write your federal Congressmen, and the President, and ask them to sponsor a bill to restrict campaign contributions from any single person or company (maybe 0?) . To enact this, one alternative might be for the government to give anyone who wants to run a set amount of money (say million for a congressional seat and million for President). Then they would all have the same amount of money to spend on advertising, and not be beholden to anyone for votes.

Also, term limits (maybe 12 years) on Congressmen would prevent them from becoming so powerful and potentially corrupt.

Or, does anyone have a better idea?
Thanks.

Do you think we should abolish political parties or campaign advertising?

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

I couldn’t care less about being un-American, and also the constitution hasn’t stopped the government from eroding our freedoms so why should it now? At least if we made an exception for this it wouldn’t harm anyone.

I think instead of outright banning anything
we should all simply agree not to vote for anyone who aligns themselves with a major political party or anyone who engages in obnoxious or incendiary campaign advertisement.
